GenMates Weekly News

Hope that you have had a good week? It’s been quite a long week for me I must admit with a number of large online and offline projects reaching a critical point which has been keeping me busy. I have also been suffering with a stinking cold which is not my idea of fun! Hopefully I will soon be rid of it!

Lest We Forget

Today of course we remember those who have given their lives in the service of us all. As always our home page at British Genealogy has changed to “Lest We Forget” our Remembrance page. As a genealogist I am always reminded of how many of our families lost young men and women at an early age as a result of War whenever I look at our Family Tree.

Suduko/Sudoku

Whichever way you spell it or indeed pronounce it “Suduko” shows no sign of declining in popularity! Everywhere you look people are completing the puzzles be it on trains or trams, buses or at airports! Or you will find them snapping up the shelf after shelf of magazines!

Health Thoughts

Talking of suffering with a stinking cold you will remember that I mentioned last week that we have been working with various medics to put together a series of health related sites. I am pleased to say that the main domain is now fully operational and you can check it out at Your Health Helper. There really is a mass of useful information in there for you.

Free Search Engines

We have had a massive response to the launch of the three search engines we have launched in collaboration with Google and if you haven’t had chance to look at them well now’s your chance! Weekly News and Ponderings

Hope that you are having a great weekend? If you are in the UK I hope that you also remembered to put your clocks back an hour!

I downloaded a programme called Picasa the other day which is excellent. I have trouble organising all of the photos I have so I decided to check it. It’s definitely the best photo organiser I have come across and it’s 100% free for life!

I am now using Picasa to organize my photos! Take a look at it by going to this article I have added about Google’s Photo Software.

The other free programme that I love is Google Earth with which you can zoom in on both your ancestors towns and villages as well as current locations. You can read about that at Google Earth and download it.

This week has been a little different than normal as we have had to adjust to my partner recovering from last week’s knee operation - however we are getting there! We have also been kept busy with the continuing development of sites that we have identified as meeting the needs of our visitors. There has been a tremendous reaction to the launch of our Hobbies and Home eBook Store and if you want to take a look then just click on the link.

Alongside that we have also launched The Hobbies Blog again which you can take a look at by clicking on the link. You will find it packed with information on a whole range of Home and Hobby subjects and I am sure you will enjoy it!

Our Weekly GenMates Update

Hope that your week has gone well? I know for us it’s been a little mad to put it mildly. As some of you will be aware my other half had a knee operation early in the week and I have been running back and too trying to look after them! Anyway things are slowly getting on the mend. So that is good news!

GenMates is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. We are seeing so many new members joining and taking advantage of the facilities on offer and it’s great to know that we are providing something that genealogists clearly want. We already have plans for a number of other sites in associated niches (areas of interest) so watch out for the news on those.

The events of the last week have delayed some of our activity but we are rapidly catching up! The Genealogy Audio Articles and The Scrapbooking Audio Articles are getting there and as someone said to me the other day they will be great to listen to on the colder winter nights. Talking of winter nights I don’t know about you but it doesn’t feel like autum yet does it! Well certainly not here in the Uk where the trees are still looking very green and leaf laden! Oh that reminds me the other thing I was asked about the Audio articles was whether the audio files will be available as MP3 downloads so that people can listen to them on the move. I am working on that at the moment and seeing how we can make them available at a nominal charge for the lot - so again watch out for news on that.

During the week I made a special offer available of The Genealogy Guide and literally dozens of people took advantage of the offer. It’s still available if you want to grab a copy for yourself and I will probably leave it available for just a couple more days at The Genealogy Guide.

We also received quit a few emails asking if we could make other offers such as that one and I am pleased to say we are doing at PK eBooks - Your eBook Store!
