It is a little over 12 months ago that I started to work with the Google Adsense Programme. In that period I have managed to go from zero to earning a regular four figure monthly income which supplements the other monies that we earn. It has enabled us to enjoy an improved lifestyle and to participate in things that we perhaps wouldn’t have been able to 12 months ago.
When we first started looking at the Google Adsense Programme we were looking at a way of generating sufficient each month to cover the web hosting costs associated with our genealogy websites. Since then with the help of Niche Mania we have spread our wings much further and now earn a regular monthly income.

Hope that you are keeping well and that as we move into February your year is going well.
As I look back over these first few weeks of the year I cannot believe how busy we have been. We have already put in place an enormous range of things for the coming weeks and months and we have some great plans!
Included in those plans is a streamlining of my Blogs! Over the next few weeks I will be setting up a completely separate Internet Marketing Blog. I will also be pulling together many of our Niche blogs to ensure that people can access great information as easily as possible. So this will probably be one of the last “General Updates” posted on this particular blog but I will keep you posted as always. Hopefully you shouldn’t see any disruption to our normal service

Money can be made online without a Website. However, to significantly increase your earnings it is of the utmost importance that you have your own. Many of you may be thinking that this will be extremely complicated, difficult and time consuming. In the past it certainly was. In order to really realise your potential on the Web you are going to have to have a good Website building software. You want one that will enable you to set-up sales pages quickly, easily put together content sites and add ADSense without any hassle. You will also want to be able to create an attractive looking site that will make your visitors want to stay on your site. It is also vital to have a Web builder that will allow you to make changes very quickly. Some of you may get daunted at the very thought of this, especially if you have no background with computers. However, there are software and services out there that makes this extremely easy even to the complete beginner. One of the most user friendly builders ever created is XSitePro. This software will enable you to get great-looking money making sites up and running with minimal effort. Another good option is to use a complete service like Site Build It! They will handle absolutely everything for you tailored to your exact requirements. However, with this option you will have an annual recurring fee which is something you may wish to avoid. You could also post your project on a freelance site such as Elance where programmers will bid on your project. After accepting a bid the programmer will carry it out to your specifications and will often help you make any updates in the future.
Another thing you will have to do is purchase a domain name and hosting package. These days many companies will throw in a free domain name with your hosting package when you sign up. There are many good hosting companies out there along with equally as many poor ones. The key things to pay attention to are uptime( aim for 99% plus), the ability to add new domains to the package for expansion and good customer service. The only hosting service I now recommend (and you know the challenges I have had!) is Hostgator
Planting a Genealogy Tree in Google’s Search Engine Garden
Whenever you create a family tree, you want to get as much input from other family members as possible. This is one time it’s good to have relatives sticking their nose into your business!
By choosing to build a family tree website, you’ve just boosted your ability to expand your roots even farther. Keeping records by pen and paper isn’t just tedious, but limiting as well.
Now that you’re planting your roots on the ‘net, you want to make sure your family history can be found by others. The more people who find your genealogy, the more hands who can help you discover unknown facts and revelations.
If you chose a family tree website that allows you to create blog entries, then you’ll want to post to that often to help search engine robots find it and index it for their results pages.
That way, whenever a distant relative goes online seeking information for their ancestry, Google or whatever search engine they’re using will return your blog as one of their choices.
Google and other search engines like to categorize websites based on keywords. So if your family name is “Brown,” then you want to create a list of words and phrases you can use within each blog entry that relate to the Brown Family Tree.
Devote each blog entry to a new keyword or phrase. The more you blog, the more often search engine robots will visit your site and post updates to search engine users when your page displays.
If your family tree website doesn’t include a blog feature, then you can create one for free at www.WordPress.com. Blogging is one of the best ways to get picked up by Google and broaden your horizons for genealogy research, but it’s not the only way.
The more family tree blogs and websites you have linking to your primary family tree page, the higher your site will raise in the search engine results. Hopefully, in time, you’ll be in a top 10 position on Google and your relatives and ancestors will be able to click on your link for a fast, easy, and effective virtual reunion.
Don’t waste hours trying to make sure you develop the perfect content for your blog. Write naturally about your quest to find information on your family name and Google will recognize your organic efforts and reward you with a spot in their search engine.

Well the first few days of the year have certainly been busy! The major focus has been on getting the new site for GenMates ready to go! We had a target of being in a position to switch by 10th January 2007 and we achived ahaed of target by being ready to go on 6th January 2007! Talking of Genealogy! I have been in discussion in the last week with a leading figure in the UK Genealogy Community and out of that has been born a sit which is hopefully going to help quite a few people when it launches on 15th February 2007! The internet has opened up the world of genealogy in ways which could not have been envisaged even a few short years ago.
However, all the information that is available is leaving more and more people confused and asking questions about their findings as the thousands of questions that are posed in forums demonstrates. There is a massive opportunity for professional and passionate amateur genealogists on the internet but many of them say that they don’t know where to start. Hopefully Helping The Genealogy Experts will help them!
There seems to be an assumption, in some quarters, that Internet Marketing products can only be sold to Internet Marketers. Over dinner we were talking about websites and one of our guests mentioned that they had a site about their passion for cats which receives thousands of visitors each day. I commented that it must be earning them a nice sum each month. At that point I was met with a blank stare and a “how do you mean?” They were completely unaware of Adsense and Affiliate Marketing and indeed commented “oh that’s only for those work at home types isn’t it?” Over the last few days, I have asked a couple of other people who I know have very successful sites in areas that they are passionate about and have been met with fairly similar responses. None of these are making money from their sites!
I originally created a short report on Adsense at Adsense Success for what I would have thought of as Internet Marketer types. However, my focus with it has changed in the last day or so. “Cat Owner with a website? How would you like to cover the costs of your income and make some additional funds?” - you get the idea I hope? Grab a copy fot he report for yourself if you have a website and are not making the most of it!
We have a number of exciting developments planned in the coming year as I have mentioned in previous posts. The next big one on the horizon is my Group Coaching site for Internet Marketers who want to lift their activity to the next level! That will launch on 1st February 2007.
Finally returning to Genealogy. Our Genealogy Search Center is getting set to launch this week and I will bring you up to date next week.

If you are one of my subscribers then you will be aware that the last two weeks have been something of a challenge! This all resulted from a major outage by one of our hosting companies which lasted for some time and saw lots of data lost by them. It impacted about 50% of my business with some of our most significant sites going offline and the domain names being inaccessible to amend the DNS for!
So as you can imagine the last few weeks have seen quite a few long days getting things back up and running and I am pleased to say that of this morning almost every major site is now back on line and fully functional. It has also seen the creation of a number of new sites and the redeployment of other sites.
What have I learnt from the last few weeks? Well in summary here’s my top pieces of advice. Always make sure that you have your hosting spread around a number of major hosts so that you can always shift things around in the event of a problem; ensure that you back up your sites and any databases on a regular basis; ensure that your hosts also back up data on a regular basis. If you are serious about hosting then you need to look at getting a Reseller Account and one of the best that I hav come across is Hostgator who I have found to be excellent.
Finally in terms of my recommendations and this is a big one! Never ever, under any circumstances buy your domain names from your hosts! That way lies complete disaster if your host goes down and you then cannot access your account. If you cannot access your account with your host then you cannot amend the DNS an point your sites to an alternative host.
Now before all that happened I had been well on with my planning for 2007 and thought that I knew what we were going to do! However, the coincidence of the problems with one of our hosts and also reading an excellent report from Niche Mania’s BigMike called “Google Hiccup” set me thinking! If you haven’t taken a look at Niche Mania then you really want to - it’s one of the very few memberhips that I ever recommend for anyone interested in making money online.
The areas we will focus on in terms of our primary niches will remain as originally planned. However, our approach to those niches and the value we will be adding is going to be much mroe focussed.
One of the things that we are currently very focussed on is evolving the highly successful GenMates community and you can read more about that at GenMates Changes - this is a set of changes which is in response to the fedback from our members. I think this is going to be really exciting!
The other two major developments which have suffered a bit of a set back are my Internet Marketing Coaching Site and my Self Improvement Coaching Site - however with a few more days work on these they will be ready to go early in the new year! One of the very best ways to make money from any Website or Blog is by using Google’s very own advertising program called Google ADSense. What basically happens is you sign up with Google and then they will give you a code to copy and paste onto your Website and then Ads will appear on your site. Every single time that someone clicks on one of your Ads you will receive a payment from Google which go directly into your ADSense account. Cheques will then be paid out to you every three months. If you are making absolutely no money from a site at the moment then this is one of the easiest and most mindless ways to create some extra income.
There are many questions asked about the ADSense programme and one of the most common questions is, “ Will the Ads that appear on my site actually be relevant to my content?” The answer is yes. The geniuses at Google have devised a system that will display Ads based on the keywords that are regularly repeated on the page. This means that if you have a Website about gardening then ADSense will displays Ads all about this topic. So after inserting the code you will probably see Ads for Gardening manuals and lawnmowers, etc. This is great because it means that the Ads will not look spammy as they fit in perfectly with your content. Therefore it is far more likely that people will click your Ads and earn you some cash. Also, the fact that the Ads are provided by one of the best known companies in the world adds credibility to the programme and makes surfers more likely to click on the Ads because they know it is unlikely to be a scam or a fraud.
Another prevalent question is, “ How much can I earn through ADSense?” Well, there are several factors that need to be looked at. These are the volume of traffic that comes to your site, the percentage of people who actually click on your Ads once at your site and how much do I get paid per click. If you have very low traffic it is extremely unlikely that you can earn much from the programme or any other programme for that matter. However, once you have got a regular flow of traffic coming to your site what you want to do is use effective techniques to increase the number of people who click your Ads. These are things like blending your Ads in effectively with the background and using pictures. If you can increase your CTR from 1% to 15% then you will automatically increase your earnings by 1500% without having to increase your traffic. Finally, the amount earned per click depends on how much the advertisers are bidding for that particular keyword. It all depends on the niche. Some well-paying niches pay out upwards of $20 per click whereas others will only be $0.05. In order to really maximise earnings and get a better understanding of how the whole system works it could be a good idea to get Michael Cheney’s ADSense Videos as they have helped thousands of people significantly increase their earnings.
One last important point to make is don’t click on your own Ads and don’t tell your friends to click on your Ads. Remember Google are extremely clever! If you get caught( and many have been) your account will be suspended and a lifetime ban will be issued.
